SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team used eight dominant innings from senior starting pitcher
Andy Crum to take down Wilmington on Thursday afternoon, 7-1, in a non-conference matchup on a cold and windy day from Fairchild Field.

Shippensburg (7-7) scored four runs in the first two innings and added three runs in the bottom of the eighth to claim the victory over Wilmington (3-9), pushing the Raider winning streak to five games.

Crum earned his first win of the season, throwing eight innings, giving up just one run on five hits while striking out five. Junior
Michael Hope pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure the win for SU.

SU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI single from junior
Tommy Baggett that scored senior
Nick Spangler.

The Raiders would add three runs in the second to push their lead to 4-0. Goertzen led off the inning with a home run to right center, his second of the season. Three batters later, Spangler hit his second home run of the season to left field to cap off the four-run second.

In the bottom of the eighth, SU would add three insurance runs to put the game away. Senior
Dalton Hoiles doubled to left to lead off the inning. Baggett then singled through the left side to score Hoiles and extend the Raider lead to 5-1. Baggett finished the day 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

The Raiders then got back-to-back doubles from junior
Drew Bene and Goertzen to extend their lead to 7-1. Goertzen finished the day 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Spangler would also tally two RBIs in the win while also going 2-for-5.

Shippensburg will return to action Saturday when it host Pitt-Johnstown for a PSAC crossover doubleheader at 1 p.m. Friday's scheduled doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown has been cancelled.
