RECAP: Volleyball Sweeps Bloomsburg, Earns No. 2 Seed in PSAC Tournament

SU completes regular season with straight-set victory over Huskies

The Shippensburg University volleyball team completed its regular season Saturday with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road sweep at Central Division foe Bloomsburg, defeating the Huskies by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21 from Nelson Field House.
 
Shippensburg (24-6, 14-4 PSAC) secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament with its victory. The Raiders matched divisional records with Seton Hill, but held a 44-43 advantage in the FIVB points system* used by the league as its primary seeding tiebreaker. 
 
Junior Samantha Webber finished a strong weekend by slamming a team-high 12 kills and hitting .375. Fellow junior Gabriella Johnson had nine kills, 10 digs and three blocks while hitting .320 on 25 attempts.
 
Sophomore Emily Hangen directed an offense that hit .200 in the match. Hangen had 27 assists, 14 digs and two kills, including the final point of the first set.
 
Senior Morgan DeFloria and junior Megan Forstburg each contributed 12 digs defensively. Redshirt-senior Courtney Malott added seven digs.
 
DeFloria, junior Kendall Johnson and sophomore Alana Pergine each had four kills. Senior Angela Tarabrella served two of SU's six aces on the day.
 
Bloomsburg (6-22, 2-16) got a match-high 14 kills from Sarah Gomish and a match-high 28 digs from Alyssa Cianciulli. The Huskies led 23-22 in Set 1, played to a 19-19 score in Set 2, and a 12-12 score in Set 3.
 
* The FIVB points system awards three points for a victory in three or four sets, two points for a victory in five sets, and one point for a loss in five sets. (SU has 13 wins in three or four sets and two losses in five sets, while SHU has 12 wins in three or four sets, one win in five sets, and two losses in five sets).
