The Shippensburg University men's soccer team scored three times in the first half Saturday en route to a 4-0 victory over Pittsburgh-Johnstown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup played at Richland High School.
Shippensburg (9-2-0, 5-1-0 PSAC) extended its winning streak to five matches (all in league play) with a convincing shutout of Pitt-Johnstown (2-9-0, 0-6-0). SU posted a 23-3 advantage in shots and a 10-0 margin in corner kicks.
Sophomore
JJ Saukko opened the scoring by converting a rebound in the 10th minute. It marks his first tally as a Raider.
Less than three minutes later, senior
Cole Kropnick scored his league-leading 11th goal of the season by heading home a corner from junior
Colin Marks. Kropnick has scored in nine of his 10 matches this season, including four-in-a-row.
Literally moments before the first-half horn, redshirt-sophomore
Erik Espinoza scored his second goal of the season. Kropnick and senior
Devlin Mettee were credited with assists.
The lone second-half tally was the first collegiate goal for freshman
Owen Iacobelli, who headed home a cross from senior
Justin Blumberg in the 63rd minute.
Senior
Garret Watson and redshirt-freshman
Bradley Brickman combined for the shutout in goal. UPJ was not credited with a shot on goal.
Shippensburg's winning streak (five) and season win total (nine) is its best since the 2013 season.
