SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team won its fourth straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Wednesday, getting goals from seniors
Cole Kropnick and
Patrick Luebben in a 2-1 victory over Bloomsburg on a sunny and warm afternoon from David See Field.
Shippensburg (8-2-0, 4-1-0 PSAC), currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Division II national rankings, maintained second place in the league standings as it nears the midway portion of the conference schedule. SU has 12 points, six behind first-place Gannon – the only league team to beat the Raiders. West Chester is currently third with 10 points.
Kropnick scored his PSAC-leading 10th goal of the season in the seventh minute by converting a perfect through ball from senior
Devlin Mettee. It is the second time this season the two men have connected on a goal for the Raiders.
One minute later, Bloomsburg (5-5-0, 2-3-0) evened the score when Thomas King finished a long throw-in from Carter Luckenbaugh. The match remained 1-1 into halftime.
Just more than three minutes into the second half, Luebben scored his fifth goal of the season for what proved to be the game-winner. Luebben, who rang a shot off the post in the first half, ripped a volley into the net off a feed from Kropnick. The play was set up off a strong entry from freshman
Owen Iacobelli.
Senior goalkeeper
Garret Watson made two saves for his eighth win of the season.
Shippensburg controlled possession in the second half, limiting the visitors to just three shots (one on goal) in the final 45 minutes of play. Overall, SU posted a 13-8 edge in shots and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Raiders have now achieved their most victories in a season since 2013 (9-7-2). The current win streak is also SU's longest since a five-match run in 2013.
