SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg University football team will host No. 15 Kutztown at 1 p.m. Saturday for Homecoming at SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium.

It is the third straight meeting in the series that has occurred on the home team's Homecoming weekend. SU spoiled KU's Homecoming last year (27-13), while the Golden Bears did so to the Red Raiders in 2016 (27-24 (OT2)).

The Matchup
  • Shippensburg was picked second in the PSAC Eastern Division preseason poll and returns 12 starters from last year's team. SU posted its fifth 10-win season in school history in 2017, achieving a 10-2 record and its sixth NCAA postseason appearance.
  • Kutztown was picked third in the PSAC Eastern Division preseason poll. The Golden Bears return 16 starters from last year's eight-win team. Head Coach Jim Clements is in his fifth season directing the Golden Bears and has compiled a 34-16 career record.
  • Kutztown is ranked No. 15 in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II national poll.
Series History
  • Shippensburg leads the overall series with Kutztown, 49-19-2. SU's win last season snapped a two-game losing streak in the series.
  • In 2016, KU spoiled Shippensburg's bid for an Eastern Division State Game berth with a 27-24 double-overtime victory. The Golden Bears also kept SU out of the State Game in 2015, posting a 51-27 rout of the Red Raiders at Kutztown.
  • SU holds a 30-4 home record over Kutztown. KU's 2016 victory was its first at Shippensburg in 21 years (1995).
  • The two teams first met in 1929, with Shippensburg (the host) winning 26-12.
Last Week
  • Shippensburg (3-4, 1-2 PSAC East) snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday with a 37-0 shutout at Millersville. SU overcame five turnovers, as the Red Raider defense limited the Marauders to an average of just 2.4 yards per play. SU had 10 total tackles-for-loss (TFLs), including a season-high seven sacks, and limited MU to a 1-of-16 conversion rate on third downs.
  • Kutztown (6-0, 3-0 PSAC East) rolled over Lock Haven, 41-0, scoring all of their points in the first half. Redshirt-junior quarterback Collin DiGalbo finished 13-for-20 through the air for 203 yards and one touchdown. He ran seven times for 45 yards and a score, becoming the program's all-time leading rusher in a career by a quarterback with 918 yards on the ground.
Success at Seth Grove Stadium
  • The Red Raiders have established a significant home-field advantage under head coach Mark 'Mac' Maciejewski, posting a 31-12 record at Seth Grove Stadium over the last eight years. SU has scored at least 17 points in 40 of its 43 home games under Maciejewski.
30th Anniversary of the 1988 Team
  • Members of the 1988 SU Football team are gathering Saturday for a reunion during Homecoming. The 1988 Red Raiders posted a 6-4 record under head coach Joe Bottiglieri and won the PSAC Western Division Championship. Both SU and IUP had 5-1 records in the West, but the Red Raiders won the head-to-head tiebreaker with a 24-23 victory over the Crimson Hawks. SU has not defeated IUP since its victory in 1988.
