RECAP: Bochanski’s Swim Highlights Men’s Swimming’s Tri-Meet at WCU

SU defeats Southern Connecticut but falls to host Golden Rams

The Shippensburg University men's swimming team completed its weekend of competition at West Chester on Saturday with a split of the annual tri-meet between the Raiders, Golden Rams, and the Owls of Southern Connecticut State.

Shippensburg defeated Southern Connecticut in the dual meet, 170-158, while holding close to the host Golden Rams (138-194).

The highlight of the day was a dominant performance in the 200-yard breaststroke by freshman Matt Bochanski, who won the event with a time of 2:08.06. That performance ranks sixth all-time in SU history for the event – which is especially impressive considering Saturday's swim came in a non-tapered dual meet.

Bochanski's swim was one of nine individual performances on the day that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standard. The 200-yard breaststroke yielded three PSAC cuts on the day, as freshman Andrew Hale took third in 2:15.13 and freshman Vin Salvatore touched the wall in 2:19.25.

Junior Jeff Beyer had some strong swims in events non-traditional to his normal distance routine. Beyer bested all comers in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in a victorious time of 22.30 seconds, before placing second in the 200-yard individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:02.10. Both are PSAC cuts.

Junior Nick Bloom recorded a pair of PSAC cuts on the day, pacing the Raiders in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.75 before completing the 100-yard butterfly in 54.56 seconds. Sophomore Hunter Keck was SU's leader in the 100-yard butterfly, completing his swim in 54.31 seconds.

The morning began with freshman Dawson Mohl completing the 1,650-yard freestyle with a conference qualifier of 17:39.60.

SU's top relays each posted third-place finishes. The first of the day featured Bloom, Hale, Salvatore and Keck completing the 200-yard medley in 1:39.32. The meet concluded with freshman Trevor Woolwine, Keck, junior Adam Fox and Salvatore completing the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:17.59.
