SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team picked up a victory in its spring season home opener on Saturday, defeating the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State University by a 5-4 score on a mild afternoon from the Robb Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
Shippensburg took a 2-1 after doubles by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. Sophomore

Daisy Rundio and
Madeline Carson scored an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

Hannah Coath earned singles victories, with Coath's win helping clinch the match in SU's favor. Luttman went almost unblemished at No. 3 singles, posting a 6-0, 6-1 win. Rundio claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles, while Coath notched a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 6 singles.
The two teams split the six singles flights, giving the Raiders the match by the final 5-4 margin. Fairmont claimed victories on the day at No. 1 doubles, No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles and No. 4 singles. Gallagher had a great duel with Janay Beamer at No. 4 singles, taking the first set by a 6-4 score, but falling 6-4 in the second set and 10-4 in the tiebreaker.
Shippensburg opens conference play at 4 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Kutztown from the Robb Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
