WHEELING, W.Va. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team, ranked No. 6 in the 2016 NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament, will take on No. 3 seed Edinboro in the first round at noon Friday from Wheeling Jesuit University's McDonough Center.

Shippensburg (26-7) is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in school history and its fourth in the last five years under head coach Leanne Piscotty. Coach Piscotty enters the weekend with a 299-183 career record in her 13th season at the helm of the Raider program.

Edinboro (23-8) is making its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance and, like Shippensburg, has not played since dropping a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinal back on November 15. On Friday, both teams will be playing their first match in 17 days.

This is around the time that we regularly inform our audience that Shippensburg and Edinboro routinely engage in five-set thrillers.

In each of the last seven meetings between the two teams, the match has gone to a fifth set, and on four of those occasions, extra points were needed to determine a winner.

The Fighting Scots have won four, including the 2016 regular season meeting, while Shippensburg has won three, its most recent being the 2015 PSAC Semifinal.

Since Coach Piscotty arrived at Shippensburg in 2004, 11 of the 15 meetings have gone five sets. Edinboro is 10-5 against Shippensburg during this span.

The winner of Friday's match will advance to play at 5 p.m. Saturday against the winner of the Gannon (No. 2 seed) and Fairmont State (No. 7 seed) matchup.
