The Shippensburg University volleyball team travels to California (Pa.) on Tuesday night to face the Vulcans at 7 p.m. in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinal matchup inside the Convocation Center.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students, with students from PSAC schools free with proper identification. California will be providing live video and live statistics at calvulcans.com.
Shippensburg (26-6, 13-5 PSAC) and California (21-8, 13-5) enter the match with identical conference records, but the Vulcans were granted the No. 4 seed and the Raiders the No. 5 seed due to the league's second tiebreaker – the FIVB points system. Point values are assigned based on quality wins and losses during the regular season, and Cal (40 points) held a slight edge (38 points) over Shippensburg.
The Raiders are competing in their 10th straight PSAC Tournament and their 11th in 13 seasons under head coach
Leanne Piscotty, who boasts a 299-182 career record. SU is vying to reach the PSAC Semifinals for the fifth straight season.
The two teams are likely playing for a Top 5 regional ranking in the NCAA Tournament. SU (No. 5 ranking) leap-frogged California (No. 6 ranking) after beating Cal two weeks ago, but the Vulcans have since posted victories over regionally-ranked Clarion and IUP.
California has won 10 of its last 13 meetings over Shippensburg, including three times in the PSAC Tournament.
Tuesday's winner will face the victor of the PSAC Quarterfinal between No. 1 Gannon and No. 8 West Chester.
