SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team lost in five sets to Adelphi (16-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16, 16-18) Saturday afternoon before beating Wilmington in four sets (25-13, 15-25, 25-10, 25-19) in the final match of the weekend at the SU Volleyball Tournament at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (2-1) played an incredibly close five games with Adelphi in the 2 p.m. match Saturday as the two teams had an equal amount of kills (56) and digs (87). Overall, Shippensburg outscored Adelphi, 73-72 in the five games. However, as the teams alternated game victories, Adelphi came through with the fifth-set victory.
In the night cap, Shippensburg won the first set, but scored just 15 points in a second-set loss before hammering Wilmington in set three and winning the final game. The Raiders outhit Wilmington .268 to .072 across the four-set match.

Morgan DeFloria had another fine day, pacing the Raiders with 26 kills in 77 total attacks. Senior
Taylor Gottshall hit a sizzling .426, converting 24 of her 47 attacks into kills on the day. Junior
Annie Goerl had 20 kills and senior
Faith Athey added 16. Athey and Gottshall shared the team lead in blocks with eight.

Maura Nolan set well again, contributing 92 assists (10.22 per set) across the two matches. Sophomore
Maria Peluso led the way with 37 digs, and senior
Laura Plank wasn't far behind with 36.
Shippensburg will return to action Friday when it faces Concord at 2:30 p.m. to kick off the Davis & Elkins Classic.
