SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team beat Davis & Elkins Friday in straight sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-18) in its season-opening match as part of the 2015 SU Volleyball Tournament at Heiges Field House.
As a team, Shippensburg (1-0) recorded 39 kills on 102 total attacks (.235 hitting percentage), including a team-high 10 by freshman
Morgan DeFloria in her Raider debut. Senior
Faith Athey added eight and junior
Rebecca Pryor pitched in six to the Shippensburg kill total.
As part of a balanced effort, junior
Annie Goerl and senior
Taylor Gottshall each contributed five kills as well.
Junior setter
Maura Nolan paced the Raiders with 30 assists and nine digs. The Raiders dished out 38 assists in all Friday night while committing just 15 errors.
Freshman
Angela Tarabrella also made her Shippensburg debut on Friday night, recording a pair of digs in the third set.
Shippensburg will play two matches Saturday at home. The first will be at 2 p.m. against Adelphi and the second at 7 p.m. against Wilmington (Del.).
