Volleyball Finishes Weekend 4-0 With Wins Over Bluefield State, Alderson Broaddus

SU wins in straight sets in both Saturday matches to improve to 6-1 overall

The Shippensburg University volleyball team defeated Bluefield State and Alderson Broaddus in straight sets on Saturday to complete a 4-0 weekend at the tournament hosted by Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia.
 
Shippensburg (6-1) defeated Bluefield State (2-2) by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-19. SU then defeated Alderson Broaddus (4-5) by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-20.
 
Senior Taylor Gottshall paced the Raiders on the day with 16 kills and eight blocks. She had nine kills, seven blocks and hit .389 against Bluefield State before totaling seven kills and hitting .375 against Alderson Broaddus.
 
Junior Maura Nolan had three kills, 35 assists and 10 digs against Bluefield and added 31 more assists against the Battlers. Senior Faith Athey compiled 14 kills between the two matches, hitting an impressive .370 on the day, and totaled six blocks.
 
Junior Annie Goerl thrived in the second match of the day against A-B, hitting seven kills to one error (.353) with 12 digs, three aces and two block assists. SU had 11 aces against Alderson Broaddus, with sophomore Courtney Malott serving three and Nolan and Gottshall each providing two.
 
Senior Laura Plank had three aces against Bluefield and led the team with 25 digs on the day. Sophomore Maria Peluso had 10 kills against the Blues and hit .500 in the opening match of the day.
 
Shippensburg is on the road next Friday and Saturday in a Mountain East Conference crossover tournament hosted by West Liberty and Wheeling Jesuit.
