BEL AIR, Md. – The Shippensburg University baseball team split a pair of games with Le Moyne Sunday, winning in walk-off fashion, 2-1, to start the day before dropping Game 2, 11-3 at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md.

Shippensburg (3-6) collected 17 hits between the two games but could muster a total of only five runs while Le Moyne (3-5) totaled 12 runs on 22 hits.

Shippensburg will square off in North Carolina Tuesday with Wingate and Catawba.

Game 1: Shippensburg 2, Le Moyne 1 (8 inn.)

SU found itself down to its last strike before scoring its first run of the game in the home half of the seventh inning.

Freshman Nick Spangler began the inning with a double in the gap. Freshman Levi Varner came in to pinch run before moving to third on a tag after a deep fly ball to right field from junior Mike Marcinko.

With Varner on third, two outs and a full count, senior Jimmy Spanos drew a walk. However, the pitch that awarded Spanos the free pass was a wild pitch and Varner bolted home and tied the game at 1-1 forcing extras.

Junior Marcus Shippey struck out five in his five innings of work, allowing four hits and zero earned runs.

Senior Nick Massetti pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and sophomore Mark Curtis picked up the win after striking out one in 0.2 innings of work.
