Volleyball Dominates the Net in Road Sweep at Millersville, 3-0

SU hits .241 and totals nine blocks in straight-set victory

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team had an efficient performance Tuesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Millersville, sweeping the Marauders by set scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-18 inside Pucillo Gymnasium.
 
Shippensburg (13-5, 4-3 PSAC) hit .241 as a team, its fourth-best effort of the season and best hitting percentage in a conference match thus far. The Raiders also had nine blocks and limited Millersville (9-7, 1-6) to a .042 hitting percentage. The Marauders also managed just one block against the Raiders.
 
Freshman Morgan DeFloria had an outstanding offensive performance with 11 kills and just one error on 25 swings – swinging .400. Junior Maura Nolan had assists on 31 of SU's 37 kills and added nine digs.
 
Senior Taylor Gottshall maintained her steady play with eight kills on zero errors, swinging .444. Gottshall had two solo blocks and two block assists – she and senior Faith Athey each had four blocks on the night. Athey also provided six kills and hit .278.
 
Senior Laura Plank and junior Annie Goerl each recorded double-digit digs, with Plank pacing the Raiders with 15 from her libero position. Junior Rebecca Pryor was solid off the bench with five kills and three blocks – including an impressive solo block on the far side of the net.
 
Shippensburg will play at home Friday for the first time since the opening week of the season. SU hosts West Chester at 7 p.m. Friday inside Heiges Field House.
