SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team used a balanced and efficient effort Friday to notch its fifth win in six matches – a 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21) victory over East Stroudsburg inside Heiges Field House.
The Raiders (18-7, 9-5 PSAC) hit .241 as a team, including a .312 mark in the second set that saw Shippensburg make just one attack error on 48 total attacks.
SU received multiple standout efforts, including senior
Faith Athey who converted 10 of her 20 attacks into kills to go along with a team-high five block assists. Junior
Annie Goerl recorded the lone double-double of the night as she led Shippensburg in both kills (11) and digs (14)
Junior
Maura Nolan continued her fine season with 34 assists and 11 digs. Both sophomore
Courtney Malott and senior
Laura Plank both added 12 digs to the Shippensburg effort.
Freshman
Morgan DeFloria finished with nine kills and senior
Taylor Gottshall recorded six. Gottshall is now 20 kills shy of 1,000 for her career.
SU won a back-and-forth first set before riding freshman
Angela Tarabrella's impressive service run in set two. Tarabrella entered the match for the first time with the score 18-15, Shippensburg. SU scored six consecutive points on her serve to pull away and win the set handily.
The Raiders trailed East Stroudsburg (6-18, 1-13) 20-19 in the third set before winning six of the last eight points to seal the match.
