The Shippensburg University volleyball team came from behind twice on Friday night to score a five-set victory at longtime rival Lock Haven in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match at Thomas Field House.
Shippensburg (12-4, 3-2 PSAC) dropped the first and third sets to Lock Haven (8-9, 1-4) but ultimately prevailed. Set scores were 12-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-17 and 15-10.
SU won for the second straight time at Lock Haven after never having won in Thomas Field House in history prior to last year's PSAC Quarterfinals (11 career meetings at Lock Haven). The Raiders had won 4-of-37 sets at Lock Haven through the end of the 2014 regular season but have now won 6-of-8 sets over the last two matches.
Four Raiders posted double-digit kills Friday, with senior
Faith Athey and junior
Annie Goerl tying for the team lead with 13 on the night. Athey was credited with 13 kills and six blocks while hitting .189. Goerl had a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs.
Senior
Taylor Gottshall and freshman
Morgan DeFloria each slammed 11 kills. Gottshall hit an efficient .226, totaling just four errors, while DeFloria had seven digs as well.
Junior
Maura Nolan handed out assists on 45 attacks for the Raiders and added value with 18 digs, two kills and two blocks. She also served two aces.
From the back row, senior libero
Laura Plank led the Raiders with 28 digs. Sophomore
Courtney Malott also stepped up with 16 digs and had two of SU's eight service aces. Sophomore
Maria Peluso contributed 21 digs.
Shippensburg remains on the road tomorrow for a 1 p.m. conference matchup at Pitt-Johnstown.
