The Shippensburg University volleyball opened the 2014 season Friday with a split at the Marauder Clash hosted by Millersville. SU defeated Chestnut Hill in three sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) before losing in five sets to Goldey-Beacom (25-20, 20-25, 25-17, 20-25, 13-15).

Taylor Gottshall was the catalyst for the Raider offense Friday, ripping 15 kills in each match. Gottshall finished the day with a .389 hitting percentage after 54 swings, adding 14 digs and a team-high six blocks (three solo, three assists).

Faith Athey continued her efficient work with 15 kills, a .222 hitting percentage five blocks. Junior
Laura Plank led the Raiders with 36 digs between the two matches.

Sophomore
Annie Goerl made an impact on offense with 21 kills, hitting .185. Goerl was particularly strong against Goldey-Beacom, slamming a career-high 14 kills and recording 14 digs for her first career double-double. Entering the day, Goerl's previous single-game bests for kills and digs were eight and nine, respectively.

Courtney Malott, who totaled 14 kills and 27 digs. Â

Shippensburg faces Stonehill at 1 p.m. Saturday before wrapping its weekend with a 5 p.m. match against Holy Family.
