The Shippensburg University volleyball squad wrapped up a 3-1 opening weekend Saturday with a straight-set victory over Stonehill (25-16, 25-15, 25-21) and a four-set win over Holy Family (25-16, 23-25, 25-16, 25-17) at the Marauder Clash tournament hosted by Millersville University.

Shippensburg hit above .270 in both of its matches, improving its efficiency on the attack. The Raiders had just eight attack errors in the sweep of Stonehill and clubbed 52 kills in the four-set win over Holy Family.

Juniors
Taylor Gottshall and
Faith Athey showcased their all-conference form with strong efforts in the middle.
Â
Gottshall had 18 kills, hit .325, and totaled a team-high 10 blocks on Saturday – providing 12 kills and three block assists in the victory over Holy Family. She also paced the team with six aces.

Athey has 12 kills to just one error on the day, hitting .458, while lodging five block assists.

Sophomore
Abby Mummert impressed with a career-high 12 kills against Holy Family, swinging a collegiate-best .500 hitting percentage as she had just two errors in the match. On a banner day for the young outside hitter, Mummert provided 19 kills, swung .364 on 44 attempts, served three aces, racked up 17 digs and soared for six blocks.

Sophomore
Annie Goerl led the Raiders overall with 20 kills between the two matches. Goerl hit .200 on a team-high 50 swings, recording 13 digs, two block assists and two service aces.

Directing the efficient offense was sophomore
Maura Nolan, who totaled 79 assists and hit .500 (five kills, no errors, 10 attempts). She added three aces and four blocks.

Freshman
Courtney Malott maintained her regular contributions this weekend with eight kills, 16 digs and five block assists. Junior
Laura Plank paced the Raiders with 27 digs, including 15 against Holy Family.

Shippensburg will compete next weekend in the Davis & Elkins Classic, opening against the hosts before facing Urbana, Concord and Glenville State.
