The Shippensburg University football team opens its 2014 season at 7 p.m. Thursday night in Greensburg, Pa. when it travels to take on the Griffins of Seton Hill University in a non-conference game from Offutt Field.
The contest marks the second meeting in history between the two teams. Last season's inaugural matchup at Seth Grove Stadium featured the Red Raiders tying a single-game school record for points in a 73-27 victory over the Griffins in which the visitors, marred by injuries, had to use a wide receiver at quarterback in the second half.
A variety of live coverage options are available, and links to both a video and audio stream are posted above. A student radio broadcast of the game will be available on 88.7 FM in Shippensburg and can be accessed online via the link posted above.
Shippensburg has not won a season-opening game played on the road since 2005, when the Red Raiders traveled to beat Kutztown, 10-7. SU has lost its last five such contests, falling to Shepherd in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
SU is 58-47-4 all-time in season-opening games. It has lost seven of its last eight season-opening games, however, with the only victory coming in 2012 over Shepherd.
Thursday's game marks two unique firsts: the Red Raiders have never opened a season at night, and the previous 109 season-opening games have all been played on Saturday.
More info to come later on Wednesday.
