SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team finished off a weekend of PSAC crossover matches Saturday, falling to Clarion in straight sets (13-25, 16-25, 12-25) before losing a four-set match to IUP (17-25, 25-21, 25-27, 18-25).
Despite the losses, it was a record-setting weekend for junior
Taylor Gottshall -- who now has the SU all-time record for career block assists.
After a solo block and four block assists in Saturday's nightcap, Gottshall now has 276 for her career -- surpassing Libby Woffindin's 273 from 2008-11. She has recorded at least 116 block assists in each of her first two seasons, and the two-time East PSAC Player of the Week already has 41 this season through just three weeks of matches.
Of note also is the fact that Gottshall has 341 total blocks in her career -- 59 short of tying SU's all-time record for that category as well.
On Saturday, Gottshall and sophomore
Annie Goerl led the way for the Raiders offensively with 17 kills each.

Sophomore
Maura Nolan notched 49 assists and three service aces between the two matches. Nolan recorded a season-high seven kills against IUP.

Shippensburg (6-6, 0-4 PSAC) battled IUP in the nightcap, overcoming an early 5-2 deficit in the second set with a series of four-point rallies to ultimately win the frame.

Multiple Raiders achieved career highs against IUP. Freshman
Courtney Malott recorded a career-high 19 digs while Goerl recorded a career-high 22 digs. Goerl finished Saturday with 26 digs.

Junior
Laura Plank led the Raiders overall with 36 digs, 20 of which came against IUP. Fellow junior
Casey Hawbaker notched 19 digs.

Sophomore
Rebecca Pryor registered six blocks between two matches.

Shippensburg returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it travels to Shepherd. The match is the first of three straight on the road for the Raiders.
