A header in the 18th minute by junior
Brooke Moyer gave the Shippensburg University men's soccer team an early lead Wednesday but the Raiders ultimately played to a 1-1 tie with perennial region heavyweight West Virginia Wesleyan at Wood Street Field in Buckhannon.
Shippensburg (2-1-1) received Moyer's strike, his second of the season, off a corner kick by senior
Fred Lucas. West Virginia Wesleyan (2-1-1) got its tally in the 82nd minute when Jordan Halpern headed home an entry from Rich Sho-Silva.
Sophomore keeper
Evan Raimist was strong in net, recording a career-high eight saves in his fourth career start.
Wesleyan, a squad that has won 10 or more games in six of the last seven seasons, tilted the field after halftime by posting a 14-6 edge in shots and a 9-2 margin in corner kicks over the final 65 minutes of play. SU had its chances as well, working four corners in the opening half while yielding just one.
Wednesday's match marked the third PSAC opponent of the young season for the Bobcats, who already earned a 2-1 victory over West Chester and dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Millersville.
Shippensburg once again travels out of state Friday for a 2:30 p.m. non-league clash with Washington Adventist.
