Junior
Liz Ross broke her own school record in the shot put Friday to highlight a strong night for the Shippensburg University women's indoor track & field team at the Bison Tune-Up from Bucknell University's Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Ross improved her indoor SU record by 7.5 inches – putting the shot 44 feet, 10 ¼ inches. She continues to lead the PSAC and her effort temporarily situates her at the No. 22 position on the Division II national charts.
Also on Friday, Ross recorded a personal best in the weight throw of 46 feet, 5 ¼ inches.
Sophomore
Megan Lundy also ended up with a school record – improving her indoor personal best in the 400 meters with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 56.83 seconds. It moves her to No. 13 on the Division II top performances list. Lundy's 56.83 seconds on a flat track will best Erica Hess's 2011 record, as it was a time of 56.33 seconds on a banked track that converts to 57.08 seconds on a flat surface.
Lundy paced a group of three Raiders who set season PRs and satisfied the 400-meter conference qualifying standard, as junior
Bri Fells ran 58.69 seconds and senior
Monique Clemons crossed the finish line in 1:00.99.
Senior
Ellie Ressler matched her indoor collegiate best in the pole vault by clearing a NCAA provisional qualifying height of 11 feet, 9 ¾ inches. The performance moves her into second place in the PSAC standings and puts her among the Top 30 in Division II. Fellow senior
Kellie Bresz also matched her indoor personal best on Friday, clearing 11 feet, 3 ¾ inches.
Graduate
Lyndsay Barna posted season PRs of 9.19 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and 17 feet, 7 inches in the long jump to affirm her position among the conference's Top 8 in both events.
Barna led a contingent of three Raiders who set season PRs in the long jump, as freshman
Sarah Hunt landed a collegiate best mark of 17 feet, 4 ¼ inches while junior
Ashley Nicola notched a top distance of 16 feet, 8 inches.
Junior
Lauren Ellsworth continued her excellent work in sprints, winning the 200 meters in 25.92 seconds and completing the 60-meter dash in 7.84 seconds. Juniors
Danesha Butler (26.70 seconds) and
Yanie Gaston (26.89 seconds) posted conference cuts in the 200 meters.
SU entered the night without an 800-meter conference qualifier to its name but picked up three on Friday. Freshman
Abbey Farrell paced nine Raiders who ran the 800 on the evening with a time of 2:25.16, while junior
April Schlusser posted a time of 2:25.18 and senior
Allison Constant crossed the finish line in 2:26.22.
In the mile, Constant ran a season PR in the mile with a time of 5:25.35. Junior
Patty Reis posted SU's fastest time of the night, placing fourth in 5:24.32, while sophomore
Jessica Collins satisfied the conference standard with a time of 5:26.06.
Other notable performances in the field included strong shot puts by junior
Sam Beckerleg and sophomore
Brianna Davis. Beckerleg set a collegiate best with a throw of 38 feet, 3 ¼ inches while Davis achieved a conference qualifier after a put of 34 feet, 9 ½ inches.
Shippensburg will compete Saturday, February 22 at Kutztown. The PSAC Championships will be held in two weeks at Bucknell's Gerhard Fieldhouse, the site of Friday night's meet.
