SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University tennis team achieved a 4-1 lead over Hagerstown Community College on a cool and cloudy Tuesday afternoon before rain suspended the competition after two hours.
Of the completed matches, freshmen
Samantha Eisele and
Sierra Pena achieved an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles and freshman
Josie Petracci notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.
SU also achieved forfeit victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles.
In a highly competitive match at No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Emilie Luttman and freshman
Sarah Kramer reached seven points but ultimately dropped a 9-7 score.
With the teams moving quickly to try to beat the oncoming rain on a dark evening, senior
Julia Saintz worked well at No. 1 singles and had already won her opening set, 6-1, and a point in the second set. Kramer won a set at No. 5 singles, 6-0, and Luttman had achieved a 5-1 lead at No. 3 singles.
The plans for the completion of the match or a re-scheduled competition will be available at a later time.
