RECAP: Tennis drops divisional opener at Bloomsburg, 7-0

Miller, Orris come close to victories at No. 3 and No. 5 singles respectively

The Shippensburg University women's tennis team put forth a competitive effort Tuesday at Bloomsburg but came up short in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener, dropping a 7-0 decision to the Huskies at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.

Shippensburg (5-8, 0-1) began the match with Corinne Markovich and Jade Miller winning four games at the No. 1 doubles flight, but Bloomsburg (8-3, 1-0) claimed the doubles point with a 6-4 victory there and 6-0 wins in the other two doubles flights.

SU had chances in the majority of the singles matches but could not achieve the decisive points to pull ahead.

Miller won the first set at No. 3 singles, 6-0 and battled her opponent Dasha Nakonechna to the end in a three-set thriller. Nakonechna claimed the victory by scores of 0-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Brinley Orris went toe-to-toe with Macarena Arisio at No. 5 singles, winning four games in both of her sets.

Ava Kalist won seven combined games at No. 6 singles, falling three and four to Sarah Buck.

Markovich won six games at No. 1 singles against Nicole Ilkovic, including four in the opening set. Yasmin De Meyer won two games in each of her sets at No. 2 singles.

Rachel Gallagher won two games in the second set of her match at No. 4 singles.

SU remains on the road on Saturday when it travels to East Stroudsburg for a 12 p.m. match with the Warriors.
