SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team could not establish an offensive rhythm Friday night in its home conference matchup against Kutztown, dropping a 3-1 decision to the visiting Golden Bears by set scores of 15-25, 25-21, 14-25 and 23-25.

Shippensburg (8-9, 2-6 PSAC) swung just .030 as a team, its lowest output of the season, as it totaled 42 kills but committed 36 errors.

Kutztown (8-6, 3-5) committed 22 errors of its own but had four players total double-digit kills. Both teams recorded 12 blocks.

Faith Athey had a strong night for the Raiders, leading the team with 13 kills and totaling seven blocks (two solo).

Fellow junior
Taylor Gottshall, who is just three blocks away from reaching second on SU's all-time career blocks list, slammed nine kills on just three errors, tallied 11 digs and had five blocks (two solos). She also had both of SU's aces for the night.

Each team racked up digs due to a bevy of long rallies on the night. Junior libero
Laura Plank matched her career high with 30 digs in another solid night from the back row, while sophomore
Annie Goerl had 21 digs and contributed 10 kills on a team-high 52 swings.

Rebecca Pryor tallied a career-high five block assists in addition to three kills and five digs.

Maura Nolan had 30 assists and 14 digs.

SU hosts East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House. The Warriors earned their first PSAC victory of the season on Friday night with a road sweep of Millersville.
