The Shippensburg University wrestling team finished 3-1 at the Mid-Penn Duals on Saturday, routing Sacred Heart and Gettysburg by scores of 41-10 and 42-6, respectively, before defeating PSAC foe and tournament host Millersville by a 25-18 margin in the third-place match from the Marauders' Pucillo Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (7-4) dropped its only dual meet of the day in the semifinals, 19-16, to Franklin & Marshall. The Diplomats lost to York, 22-16, in the championship match. SU has gone 5-2 at the Mid-Penn Duals over the last two years.

Junior Cody Myers, sophomore Neal Grudi and redshirt-freshman Bobby Scheivert each went 3-1 on the day, with Myers and Scheivert each recording two pins.

Redshirt-freshman Cameron Throckmorton returned to action and won all three of his matches. His highlights included a pin of Millersville's Thomas Nulty just 31 seconds into the second period and a 13-3 major decision over F&M's Robert Ruiz.

Sophomore Ean Starner went 2-1, including a technical fall in the Sacred Heart match, and senior Dan Estricher had a pin among his two victories. Sophomore Dave Calambas also recorded two pins.

Against Sacred Heart, SU received victories by fall from Calambas at 125 pounds and Myers at 141 pounds before Starner's technical fall established a 17-4 Raider lead through four bouts. SU went on to earn two more decisions while the Pioneers forfeited three of the final five weight classes.

The dual against F&M featured four weight classes that had decisions with victory margins of two points or less. The Diplomats built a 13-4 lead through five weight classes, including a 4-1 decision over Myers at 141 pounds and a 3-2 decision over Grudi at 157 pounds. Scheivert pinned Rob King at 165 pounds; sophomore Luke Etter notched a 9-8 decision at 184 pounds and Estricher achieved a 5-3 sudden victory in overtime at heavyweight, but it wasn't enough as F&M used decisions at 174 and 197 to seal its win.

SU raced out to a 30-0 lead over Gettysburg after pins from Calambas, Myers and freshman Mark Lentz, decisions for junior John Lindquist and Grudi and a forfeit of 133 pounds. The Bullets only won two weight  classes – 174 and 184 – while the Raiders closed out the match with first-period pins by freshman Francis Slover and Estricher.

In the final dual of the day, Throckmorton notched his pin of Nulty to counter a Marauder victory by fall at 125 pounds. It was the first of six straight wins for the Raiders, who built a 25-6 lead with three bouts remaining. Myers, Starner and Grudi earned decisions before Scheivert notched his second pin of the day and Lindquist wrestled up to an 8-0 major decision at 174 pounds.

Shippensburg will next compete in the all-important Super Region I Duals at Newberry College in South Carolina. SU will wrestle Belmont Abbey on Friday night before facing Ouachita Baptist, Ohio Valley and Limestone on Saturday.
