SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team earned victories in six events on Friday night and recognized four of its seniors in a pre-match ceremony before dispatching Edinboro in a dual meet, 114-91 inside Donald N. Miller Pool.

Shippensburg (3-3) honored Julia Brownrigg, Keeley Chenet, Alayna Ryan and Sara Small in their final home competition. Brownrigg won the 200-yard IM (2:14.38) and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke while Chenet took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

“As I anticipated tonight's meet was very exciting,” head coach Tim Verge '89 said following the match. “It was great to come out on top with the women's win, especially considering we lost up there last year. We had some super races and look good for this point in the season.”

SU finished 1-2-3 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and held the lead for the remainder of the meet. Sophomore Tara Yohe paced the Raiders in the event while Ryan finished third behind Chenet.

Junior Julie Brown won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events, taking the 50 in 24.58 seconds and the 100 in 54.78 seconds. Freshman Rikki Sargent earned first place in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.83 and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Raiders closed out the night with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Jen Flinchbaugh, Brown, freshman Carolyn Meier and Brownrigg took the event in 1:40.20. Meier had a strong night, as she also placed second in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events.

Overall, SU has 10 times on Friday which satisfied the PSAC qualifying standard and had 14 Top 2 finishes.

“If we stay healthy and keep our efforts consistent, we will be in great shape for the conference meet,” Verge said. “It was a nice way for our seniors to go out.”

Shippensburg will continue training for the PSAC Championships, which are four weeks away. SU will also compete February 2 in the Bucknell Invitational.
