DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – By virtue of a pin from junior Simon Rice at 141 pounds, the Shippensburg University wrestling team earned a 19-18 dual meet victory over Delaware Valley College on Wednesday night.

The match ended at 18-18, but new collegiate rules were put in place this season to eliminate ties. The first tiebreaker – number of victories – was split at five for each team. The Raiders (11-10) then won the match via the second tiebreaker – total number of falls and technical falls – thanks to Rice's pin.

The victory was SU's first over the Aggies (8-11) in the last 10 matches, as Delaware Valley is a perennially strong program currently ranked No. 23 in Division III.

Rice set the tone of the match with a victory by fall in 2:51 over James DeLillo. After dropping a pair of major decisions, the Raiders rebounded with three straight victories, all by decision, to go up 15-8 with four bouts remaining.

Freshman Neil Grudi used a riding time point as the difference in a 7-6 decision at 165 pounds, 174-pound freshman Luke Etter grabbed a 6-0 decision and senior Tyler Zittle earned a 6-3 decision at 184 pounds.

At heavyweight, junior Dan Estricher used an escape in the third period as the difference-maker in a 3-2 decision to establish an 18-11 Shippensburg lead with 125 and 133 pounds remaining.

Delaware Valley earned a major decision at 125 and a decision at 133 to tie the match at 18 apiece.

Shippensburg returns home on Friday for a 7 p.m. match with Anderson (S.C.) from Heiges Field House.
