RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team returned to action Saturday at the 2012 Wolfpack Duals hosted by N.C. State and split four matches – dropping dual meets with Division I opponents Gardner-Webb and George Mason before defeating Division I SIU-Edwardsville and D-II regional opponent Anderson (S.C.).
Shippensburg (4-6) wrestled extremely well given the fact that Saturday's duals were the first official team competition in nearly a month. Before Saturday, SU last competed at the PSAC Championships on December 10.
Junior
Dan Estricher went 4-0 on Saturday to improve his season record to 9-2. His 9-1 major decision over SIU-Edwardsville's Cole Rogers clinched a 24-22 victory over the Cougars. He also picked up decisions by 10-6 and 6-1 scores.
Senior
Tyler Zittle had an outstanding afternoon, going 3-1 and picking up bonus points in all of his wins. Zittle began the day with a 46-second pin of Gardner-Webb's Jason Porter and later pinned SIU-Edwardsville's Steve Ross in 2:31. He capped off the day with a 17-1 technical fall over Anderson's Brian Glace.
Freshman
Luke Etter went 3-1 to run his record for the season to 7-1. He had a 10-2 major decision over Gardner-Webb's Aaron Raybin and a 5-0 decision over George Mason's Steve Swayze before dropping a 10-8 decision against SIU-Edwardsville. Etter capped off the day with a 17-2 technical fall of Will Sutton.
Another freshman,
Colten Keck, made his Raider debut and posted a 3-1 record. Keck's first victory was an 11-0 major decision over George Mason's Chris Rodriguez.
Sophomore
John Lindquist wrestled in two of the four bouts at 165 pounds and won both, picking up a 12-4 major decision over George Mason's Matt Huffstickler and a pin in 5:24 over Anderson's Dalton Harper.
Shippensburg will host Seton Hill in a dual meet at 7 p.m. Thursday from Heiges Field House.
