WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team split its Saturday doubleheader at West Chester to finish the weekend with victories in three of its four games against the Golden Rams. SU rode a strong relief performance from sophomore
Josh Scott to win the opener, 8-7, before dropping the nightcap, 13-5.
Shippensburg (14-17, 7-5 PSAC East) gave up seven runs in the first three innings of the opener but scored three runs in the first and the second to stay in the game. SU tied the game in the fifth with an RBI-single by junior
Jimmy Miller and took the lead in the sixth with a sacrifice fly by sophomore
Sam Phillips.
Scott entered in the second inning and quieted the Golden Ram bats that had erupted early in the game. He allowed seven hits but worked out of several jams to record his first victory of the season. Redshirt junior
Kody Kibler pitched the seventh to record his second save of the year.
Senior
Jesse Smith and junior
Ben Miller both had two hits in the opening game and added another in Game 2. Smith tripled in the fifth inning of the opener and scored the tying run.
Freshman
Pat Kregeloh hit a two-run double to get SU on the scoreboard in the first. Senior
Kris Kullman, senior
AJ Czap and junior
Eric Herman each hit doubles to start the three-run second inning for Shippensburg.
On Tuesday, Shippensburg will travel to Johnstown for a 10 a.m. doubleheader with California (Pa.) from Point Stadium – the site of the 2011 PSAC Baseball Championships.
