BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Junior Ted Williams threw SU's first seven-inning shutout since Tim Freshour's 2009 no-hitter on Saturday afternoon as the Shippensburg University baseball team split a PSAC Eastern Division twinbill at Bloomsburg, winning the opener 5-0 before dropping the second game, 4-1.

Shippensburg (10-12, 3-1 PSAC East) finishes the week with wins in four of its six games against conference opponents and has won 10 of its last 13 overall. The Raiders sit in a tie for first place in the PSAC Eastern Division after the first weekend of play along with East Stroudsburg and potentially Millersville.

Williams scattered three hits and walked just one in the best start of his collegiate career. He allowed just one baserunner through the first four innings and extended his scoreless streak to 13.2 innings. Only one runner reached third base in his third career complete-game performance.

SU opened the scoring in the third inning of the first game with an RBI-single by sophomore Sam Phillips that plated senior AJ Czap. Phillips was the only Raider to get a hit in all four games of the series and finished the weekend 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate.

In the fourth, the Raiders scored three runs with the help of some defensive miscues by the Huskies. Junior Tyler Uphouse singled with one out before three straight Raider hitters reached on errors. Uphouse scored on the second of the three errors. Czap singled home a run and junior Eric Herman plated another with an RBI-groundout.

An insurance run came across the board in the seventh when freshman Pat Kregeloh hit into a fielder's choice that scored senior Jesse Smith, who had doubled to lead off the inning.

Sophomore Cam Richardson was the tough-luck loser in the second game. Richardson threw five strong innings and left after walking the leadoff batter in the sixth inning. He was ultimately charged with two earned runs while allowing just one hit. He walked three batters and struck out six.

Bloomsburg (8-8, 1-3 PSAC East) scored three times in the sixth inning against freshmen relievers Shawn Patterson and Austin Bartley (Newark, Del./Newark). Junior Kody Kibler did a fine job to work out of the resulting jam and help SU escape further trouble in the inning, but the damage had already been done.

SU's only run of the second game came on an RBI-single in the fifth inning by Herman that scored Czap. The Raiders only mustered four hits against Kyle Hunter, who picked up his first win of the season for the Huskies.

Shippensburg returns to action Friday at 1 p.m. with a PSAC East doubleheader from Kutztown.

Notes: Saturday's shutout was the fourth by Shippensburg achieved as a team this season...SU did not shut out an opponent last season...Williams threw seven innings in a game for just the second time in his career...Richardson has given up just three hits in his two starts this season (11.2 innings) while walking six and striking out 12.
