SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University softball team had its 13-game winning streak snapped as the No. 12-ranked Bloomsburg Huskies swept the Lady Raiders on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 3-2 and 6-4 at Robb Field.

Shippensburg (21-13, 4-2 PSAC East) opened the first game by manufacturing a run to take a 1-0 lead against Bloomsburg starter Ashley Lynn in the bottom of the second inning. After a leadoff double from junior Lori Knopf, she advanced to third base on a ground-out from sophomore Lisamarie Ramagli and scored after Jess Rosin's throw to third base ricocheted out of play.

Senior Dani Shields neutralized Bloomsburg through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth when Jenna Hampton laced a two-out, two-run double that gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead. Shields did escape further damage by inducing a fly-out by Rosin with the bases loaded.

The Lady Raiders answered in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at 2-2. Senior Sarah Stengl singled into left-center field and was replaced on the bases by freshman Maggie Sander. Freshman Hope Cornell then singled through the middle to extend her hit streak to 15 games, tying similar streaks recorded by former Lady Raiders Heather Chantiles in 2006 and Liz Corr in 2005.

After Knopf hit into a fielder's choice to bring runners at first and third, she was replaced at first by freshman Dana Ward, who subsequently advanced to second on a passed ball. Freshman Courtney Steele then came to the plate and singled through the right side to score Sander, but Ward was thrown out at the plate on a strong throw from Nikki Shiko.

The top of the seventh saw Bloomsburg take the lead after a fielding mishap from Shippensburg with two outs. With Husky shortstop Tara Reed on second base with two outs, the Lady Raiders could not cleanly field a foul ball from Lacy Mauro, and after the mishap Mauro responded by ripping a double into left-center field that scored Reed to ultimately give the Huskies a 3-2 victory.

Bloomsburg (25-2, 4-0 PSAC East) quickly opened up a 5-0 lead through three innings of Game 2 after stringing together four runs in the top of the third, with the scoring highlighted by a two-run home run from Kayleen Sidisky.

The Lady Raiders answered in the bottom of the fourth with three runs as senior Amanda Bardo crushed a two-run home run to left-center field and Ramagli ripped an RBI-double into center. After a Husky run in the top of fifth, Shippensburg got another run in the sixth with an RBI-single from freshman Jill Mullan but ultimately could not draw any closer.

Cornell finished the second game 0-for-4 to snap her 15-game hitting streak, finishing one short of the 16-game hitting streak of Jaime Dacey in 2005. Mullan finished the doubleheader 4-for-6 with two doubles, while Bardo posted three hits between the two games.

Shields threw a complete game in the opener and allowed just two earned runs while striking out seven. Knopf pitched five innings in the nightcap and was relieved by senior Jill Kirby.

Shippensburg will hit the road on Saturday to take on Kutztown as the Lady Raiders continue their PSAC Eastern Division schedule. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
