2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Atlantic Region Second Team

2010 (Junior):
Continued her service as a valuable two-way player for Shippensburg in her third collegiate season…led the team with 156.1 innings pitched and compiled 10 victories…posted a 3.40 earned-run average…threw 17 complete games, including two shutouts…tallied 110 strikeouts…finished two games with saves…appeared in 28 games as a pitcher, making 22 starts…racked up shutouts against Davis & Elkins and East Stroudsburg…fanned a season-high 10 batters in a relief appearance against Davis & Elkins…started five consecutive games at one point during the season…yielded three earned runs or less in 13 of her starts…did not allow an earned run in both games of a road doubleheader at East Stroudsburg…hit .273 at the dish in 110 at-bats…made 15 starts in left field and served as an outfielder in 21 total games…stole 19 bases in 20 attempts…drew 18 walks…scored 16 runs, fourth-most on the team…drove in two runs…had multiple hits in six games…finished the season on a six-game hitting streak…singled three times and scored three runs in a win at Slippery Rock…reached base in 29 of the 36 games in which she had an at-bat.

2009 (Sophomore):
Broke through with a career year in her second season with Shippensburg…honored with a selection to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Atlantic Region Second Team for her outstanding play from the pitcher and right field positions…appeared in 41 games while making 39 starts as a batter…led the Lady Raiders at the plate with a team-best .391 batting average (eighth-best in the PSAC) while scoring 21 runs and totaling 49 bases…paced the team with a .458 batting average in conference play…tied for the team lead with 11 stolen bases….had multiple hits in 13 games…longest hitting streak was five games…contributed at least one hit in 26 of the team’s 39 games…batted .443 as an outfielder…scored multiple runs in six games…made 14 starts from the circle and 15 total appearances…compiled a 2.99 earned-run average…limited opponents to 17 extra-base hits in 89 innings of work…averaged a strikeout per inning with 89 punchouts on the season…held opponents to a .261 batting average…threw seven complete games…tossed a nine-inning complete game with nine strikeouts in her final game of the season, a contest in the NCAA regional tournament against California (Pa.), while going 4-for-4 at the plate and reaching base every plate appearance…the day before, Ward allowed just one run in 12.2 innings also against California (Pa.) while striking out 10 batters…recorded her first career strikeout over East Stroudsburg while striking out 10 batters…achieved a season-high 13 strikeouts against No. 6 Kutztown in a complete-game effort…went 3-for-3 with a triple, walk, RBI, three runs and three stolen bases in a virtuoso performance against Barton…also had 3-for-3 games against West Virginia State and East Stroudsburg.

2008 (Freshman): Debuted for the Lady Raiders and made an appearance in the circle seven times, including three starts...recorded a 4.94 ERA and finished with a 2-2 record… pitched all five innings of a 14-0 blowout of Queens (NY) and struck out five for her first collegiate victory… received another win after entering the April 8 game against West Chester in relief, throwing four innings and allowing just three hits and one run…struck out 15 batters on the season and totaled 22.2 innings pitched…tossed two complete games…appeared at the plate four times when not pitching and had two hits…scored five times as a pinch runner.

Sherwood High School: Was a two-time team MVP for the Warriors of the Maryland 4A conference under coach Patricia Flanagan…won nine letters, including four in softball and three in volleyball…recorded a complete game in every one of her starts in high school, earning shutouts in 15 of 31 starts…finished with a 26-5 record and a career ERA of 0.83 in 211 innings…pitched a perfect game on May 10, 2006…recorded 10 no-hitters in two years of high school…struck out 388 batters for a K/7 ratio of 12.87…allowed just 70 hits and 15 extra-base hits…posted a career batting average of .366 that included four doubles, four triples and three home runs…compiled 35 RBIs and 81 total bases while stealing 14 bases…drew 32 walks over three seasons…only struck out seven times in the 2006 season…finished the season with a 16-game hitting streak…named the DC Examiner Player of the Year as well as the Maryland Gazette Player of the Year following the 2006 season...was an All-Metro Second Team selection by the Washington Post…selected to the First Team squads of the Examiner and the Gazette after the 2005 season...also competed for the under-18 MVSA Storm, and threw 19 shutouts for her travel teams…for her career between travel teams and high school, she has struck out 871 batters in 564 innings.

Personal: Full name is Dana Elizabeth Ward…is the daughter of Patrick and Wanda Ward …majoring in education while seeking a minor in coaching…has an older sister, Reilly, who graduated from UMBC and played softball for four years, and another sister, Monica, who is a registered nurse at the Baltimore-Washington Medical Center.
