Red Raider Football Makes Five-Hour Trip To Erie For Its Regular Season Finale With Mercyhurst

Saturday's game is first-ever meeting between the two schools

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University will conclude its regular season on Saturday from Tullio Field when the Red Raiders take on PSAC Western Division opponent Mercyhurst in the first career meeting between the two teams. Mercyhurst will be holding Senior Day festivities before the game, which is set to kickoff at 3 p.m.

BROADCAST INFORMATION

The game is being broadcast live on Shippensburg University student radio station, WSYC 88.7 FM and on the Internet here (radio pre-game starts at 2:45 p.m.). Andy Malnoske will handle the play-by-play while A.J. Beck will be the color commentator. Mercyhurst and B2 Networks are video-casting the game online here that can be viewed for a nominal fee.

GAME INFORMATION

Shippensburg (4-6, 3-4 PSAC East) is looking to end the season on a positive note after a convincing victory over Cheyney last Saturday to conclude the home schedule. Senior Day produced the most points for the Red Raiders since the 1999 season, as six different backs combined for 345 rushing yards.

Mercyhurst (6-4, 5-2 PSAC West) held California (Pa.) to four consecutive 3-and-outs in the second half last weekend but could not earn a berth to the State Game, dropping a 17-6 decision to the Vulcans. The Lakers will be looking for their first seven-win campaign in 13 years on Saturday against Shippensburg.

SERIES HISTORY

Saturday's meeting will be the first between the two teams. Shippensburg is competing in its first season in the PSAC Eastern Division, while Mercyhurst is in its first season in the PSAC Western Division after previously being a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

SENIOR SEND-OFF

Saturday's game will mark the final collegiate football contests for seniors Brad Catherman, Josh Emberg, Reggie Farrior, Jason Groller, Anthony Marsh, Bill Morrison, Matt Olecki, Josh Oswalt, Scott Sacco and Jason Stone. The 10 seniors have compiled 361 career appearances between them dating back to the 2004 season.
