About SAAC: A Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations, and policies that affect student-athletes’ lives on the Shippensburg University campus.
Mission: The mission of the Shippensburg University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, acting as a liaison between student-athletes and administration, and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
Purposes:
• To generate a student-athlete voice within the institution.
• To solicit student-athlete response to proposed NCAA legislation.
• To suggest potential NCAA legislation.
• To organize community service efforts.
• To create a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus, conference-wide, and nationally.
Fun Fact About Shippensburg's SAAC: Shippensburg has been honored three consecutive years by the NCAA for its community engagement. SU’s MentorSHIP program and Kid’s Night Out event was among 17 initiatives recognized by the NCAA in 2010-11. Shippensburg was previously honored in 2010 for its Special Olympics “Fun Meet” – an event that served as a fund-raiser for the local Special Olympics swim team – and in 2009 for its “Jam the Gym” promotion in which more than 2,200 fans attended a nationally-televised basketball doubleheader against East Stroudsburg.
