SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host its annual Athlete Auction on Sunday, April 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Ceddia Union Building (CUB).
The auction is conducted to raise funds on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. It is the largest wish-granting charity in the world.
In 2007, Shippensburg's SAAC raised approximately $2,000 from the athlete auction and $5,000 overall through various fund-raising initiatives. Shippensburg University, through the efforts of SAAC, was ranked fourth in Division II in donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The auction is an opportunity for student-athletes to participate in an event that raises numerous dollars for a great cause. The student-athletes hope to raise funds for the purpose of granting a child a magical wish experience that will last a lifetime.
Also this weekend, Shippensburg will hold its annual Big Event, in conjunction with Ship Shape Day this Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Participating students will be provided with project details and receive a free lunch. The group will meet at the Firefighter's Activities Center on Orange Street (next to the Shippensburg Beverage Center).
