SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team battled regional frontrunner Shepherd on Saturday night but could not get past an efficient group of Rams, dropping a straight-set decision by scores of 22-25, 24-26 and 15-25 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action from a humid Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (8-5, 1-1 PSAC East) hit .190 against Shepherd (11-1, 2-0), the second-best offensive output against the Rams this season. Both teams had six blocks, but the Rams out-dug the Raiders by 15 and hit .239 from the floor.

Hailey Cappleman paced Shippensburg with 11 kills and four block assists; she hit .391 from the floor (only two errors in 23 total attempts). Sophomore

Shay Kolivoski had 16 digs and three assists.
The Raiders were undone by 14 service errors – their most in a match since committing 16 three years ago in a four-set win over Shepherd. In fact, Shippensburg had two more errors on the service line Saturday night than it did on attack (12).
Shepherd got 11 kills from Ada McCoy and Sophia Ryan – McCoy finished the weekend with 32 kills over the course of two league victories after recording 21 last night at Millersville. Amya Davis added 10 kills, while Alexa Smith led all players with 23 digs.
Setter Maggie Smith averaged 12 assists per set – totaling 36 on the night – to go along with five digs. Forty-three percent of her set attempts on the night resulted in Ram kills.
Shippensburg returns to action at 6 p.m. Friday when it hosts Bloomsburg for its annual "Pink Weekend" at Heiges Field House. The team will be auctioning off various gift baskets and other items with the proceeds being donated toward the fight against breast cancer.
