SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team used some key scoring runs in each set Friday night to achieve a 3-0 victory over Bloomsburg, claiming the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup by set scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-21 in action at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (9-5, 2-1 PSAC East) hit .231 from the floor and posted double-digit blocks for the fourth time this season, recording 10 as a team. The Raiders limited the Huskies to a .059 hitting percentage.
Bloomsburg (7-6, 0-3), a squad that took Lock Haven and Kutztown to five sets last weekend, served four aces and had seven blocks of its own but could not gain an advantage larger than three points in any frame.
Senior

Natalya Montague contributed six kills without an error, hitting a career-high .545 from the floor to go along with five blocks (one solo). Sophomore
Elise Bragg finished with nine kills and nine digs.
Junior

Redshirt-sophomore
Riley Blank and senior
Kylie Snyder combined for nine kills; Snyder matched Montague with four block assists. Senior
Shay Kolivoski finished with nine digs; it ended a streak of 41 consecutive matches in which she had recorded double-digit digs.
Following a back-and-forth start to the opening set, a 4-0 SU scoring run opened up a 15-10 Raider advantage and forced a Bloomsburg timeout. Montague added a kill and a block to what was overall a 10-3 Raider run that stretched the margin to 19-12. Blank later quashed a Bloomsburg mini-run with a kill for set point, 25-19.
Both teams struggled from the service line early in the second set, with six errors among the first 18 combined points. A 4-0 Bloomsburg run that included a pair of blocks and an ace gave the Huskies a 15-14 edge and their first lead since the opening point of the frame.
Shippensburg responded with a 7-1 spurt led by a pair of kills and a block assist by Montague in the middle. Montague added another big swing coming out of a Bloomsburg stoppage, and a block from
Mya Davis and
Nizaya Hawkins closed out the second set.
The Raiders erased a 16-13 deficit midway through set No. 3 courtesy of a vital 4-0 scoring run that included a pair of kills from
Clara Wildermuth. A Blank spike made it a two-point Raider edge, 19-17. Following a
Shea Stevens service ace, Bloomsburg staved off match point twice before Snyder hammered home a 25-21 set victory.
Shippensburg hosts Lock Haven at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Heiges Field House.
