SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team delivered a terrific Senior Day performance on Saturday as it achieved its first victory over Kutztown since 2017, defeating the Golden Bears by a 6-1 score in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at a sunny and hot Robb Sports Complex.

Before the match, the team honored its two senior players: Corinne Markovich and Yasmin De Meyer, for their contributions to the team.

Shippensburg (7-11, 1-3 PSAC East) took the early 1-0 lead over Kutztown (4-11, 0-4) by winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles point. De Meyer and Samhitha Koganti notched a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles while Taylor Maguire and Brinley Orris picked up a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

Singles play began with Jade Miller sweeping her opponent at No. 3. Rachel Gallagher finished off Alyson Witman at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-3, to put the Raiders up 3-0.

Koganti's 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles clinched the match for the Raiders.

De Meyer and Orris each prevailed in marathon matches. At No. 4 singles, De Meyer won the first set, 6-1, but dropped the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5) to Gabby Gentile. With the outcome not entirely determined at the time, De Meyer had to play a full third set – in which she prevailed, 6-4.

Orris rallied impressively at No. 5 singles. After dropping the first set 6-3, she won the second set, 6-2. With the ability to play to a tiebreak for the third set, Orris won 10-5 to claim the win.

Markovich won five games at No. 1 singles, including four in the second set, against Isabela de Nadai.

SU concludes its regular season at 3 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Millersville at Robb Sports Complex. The winner of that match will earn the No. 4 seed in this year's PSAC Tournament.
