SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team battled league foe Millersville on Wednesday in a competitive match but could not up-end the Marauders, dropping a 5-2 decision on a sunny and warm afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.
Â
Shippensburg (7-12, 1-4 PSAC East) picked up a win at No. 3 singles from
Jade Miller, who defeated Mia Gassert by scores of 7-6 (7-4) and 6-0. It was Miller's eighth victory of the season; she finished her sophomore campaign with a 7-5 record at No. 3 singles, including a 2-1 mark against league opponents.
Â
Yasmin De Meyer triumphed in her final collegiate match, enduring another marathon and outlasting Luci Consigliere by scores of 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 11-9. De Meyer had to rally after falling behind in the tiebreaker to achieve the comeback win.
Â
It was De Meyer's second straight league match that went to the limit; she earned a three-set win against Kutztown on Saturday, and the third overall set tiebreaker she played in a conference match.
Â
Brinley Orris won five games at No. 5 singles. Orris finished her junior season with an 8-9 overall record that includes a 6-5 record at No. 5 singles.
Â
Miller and
Rachel Gallagher went to the limit at No. 3 doubles against Consigliere and Duda Barreto, winning five games in a 7-5 loss. The duo ended the year 3-4 overall in doubles matches.
Â
Samhitha Koganti and Gallagher won three games respectively in their No. 2 and No. 6 singles matches while
Corinne Markovich claimed a game at No. 1 singles.
Â
Overall, SU won 37 singles games in Wednesday's match against the Marauders, including 12 from the four singles flights in which it was not victorious. Last year, SU won only 12 games in the four contested singles matches against MU, and only eight in 2024.
Â
Millersville (6-9, 2-3) clinched a berth in the PSAC Tournament with Wednesday's victory. After claiming the doubles point, the Marauders received wins at the Top 2 singles flights from Lauren and Marian Hayes before clinching the victory with a win at No. 5 singles.
Â
The loss concludes the collegiate careers of seniors De Meyer and Markovich. De Meyer, who joined the team in the spring of 2025, competed in 32 career singles matches and 28 career doubles matches with the Raiders. After posting a 2-13 singles record in her debut season, De Meyer finished the 2025-26 campaign with a 7-10 overall record in singles and a 5-11 overall record in doubles.
Â
Markovich wraps up her SU tenure having competed in 64 career singles matches – all at the No. 1 "top" flight – and in 58 doubles matches (at either the No. 1 or No. 2 flight). She achieved a single-season career best of four No. 1 singles victories this season.
