SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team battled valiantly but ultimately came up short in a 6-1 setback to Goldey-Beacom in a nonconference match Saturday at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (6-11) got a win from
Brinley Orris (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) at No. 5 singles and took a total of 15 points in a very competitive doubles competition.

Goldey-Beacom (7-9) duo Nahomi Quinonez and Jenna Frank pulled out a close victory over SU's
Yasmin De Meyer (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa/Epworth (Newbury)) and
Ava Kalist (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) at No. 2 doubles to help the Lightning take the doubles point. De Meyer and Kalist battled Quinonez and Frank to a tie breaker in a 7-6 Goldey Beacom win.

SU's
Rachel Gallagher (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) and
Jade Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Donegal) posted a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles, and the combination of
Corinne Markovich (Johnstown, Pa./Central Cambria) and
Samhitha Koganti (Vizag, India/Apple I EM School) won three games in a setback on the No. 1 doubles court.

In singles competition, Orris dispatched her opponent by a 6-1, 6-1 final score.

De Meyer lost a pair of close sets to GBC's Lucia Corte at No. 4 singles: 6-2, 7-5.

Gallagher took six games from Ihsane Achouri at No. 6 singles: 6-1, 7-5; while Koganti and Miller won four and two games, respectively, at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

The victory for the Lightning marked not only the end of their season, but also closed the final chapter on their program, as Goldey-Beacom will not field a women's tennis team next season.
