SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team battled West Chester to a hard-fought draw in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener Saturday afternoon at David See Field, 0-0.
Shippensburg (1-0-1) weathered a West Chester (1-0-1) attack that outshot the Raiders 17-to-6. Redshirt-junior goalkeeper Kirstin Brown totaled five saves.
The Raiders recorded three shots on target, one each from sophomore forward Lannah Werynski, senior midfielder Maegan Quinn and senior defender Kaitlyn DiCandilo.
Golden Ram keeper Grace Keen produced three saves.
It is the two programs' first-ever draw in 40 lifetime matchups, and the Raiders' first clean sheet against the Golden Rams since Sept. 6, 2007 – a 1-0 SU win in overtime over then No. 3 WCU.
Next up, Shippensburg opens the road portion of the schedule with a trip to defending PSAC Champion Shepherd for a noon Wednesday kickoff.
