The Shippensburg University men's soccer team posted its second consecutive clean sheet Wednesday evening with a road draw at California (Pa.) in a nonconference matchup at the Phillipsburg Soccer Complex, 0-0.
Shippensburg (2-2-1) fended off California's (2-2-1) early pressure and pushed for a late winner. All three of the Vulcan's shots on goal came in first 45 minutes, while the Raiders registered a 2-0 advantage in shots on goal in the second half. It is the first time SU has held the opposition scoreless in back-to-back games since Sept. 2022.
Goalkeeper
Ryan Krumenacker got the start in between the sticks for SU and was credited with three saves, including a game-saving stop in the 39th minute. A successful flick-on header following a Vulcan goal kick sent forward Ben Sauerländer in on a breakaway, forcing Krumenacker into a quick reaction save.
Shippensburg forward
Ethan Paulukow was unlucky not to score Wednesday. The SU target man led the Raiders with a pair of shots and helped create three big opportunities for a potential game-winner.
In the minutes following Krumenacker's save, Paulukow had a potential go ahead goal whistled back due to offsides.
After the break, Paulukow came again when his well-struck volley off a feed from
John Trigg drifted wide in the 65th minute.
Lastly, Paulukow's strong near post header off a Shippensburg corner kick forced a tough save from Vulcan keeper Breno Santos in the 73rd.
The SU defense stepped up again late, denying two Cal desperation corner kick attempts in the game's final moments.
The two teams combined for six yellow cards in the contest.
Next up, the Raiders return home to David See Field to take on Seton Hill in a nonconference matchup beginning at 2:30 p.m.
