SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team was unable to get past Millersville on Saturday, dropping a 2-0 decision to the visiting Marauders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on a sunny and warm afternoon at David See Field.
Shippensburg (1-2-2, 0-2-2 PSAC East) had the edge over Millersville (2-3-1, 2-2-1) in shots on goal (4-3) and corner kicks (7-4), but the Marauders were able to convert an opportunity in the final five minutes of each half to record their second league win of the week after a 2-1 home victory Wednesday over West Chester.
SU's best chances came in the second half – its most notable was a shot at close range by
Mia Kemp. Marauder goalkeeper Sabrina Zimmerman was up to the task, making four saves.
Kirstin Brown made one save for the Raiders.
Millersville scored in the final 90 seconds of the opening half with a precise free kick from Melanie Love that was expertly finished in the box by All-PSAC East Second Teamer Lia Francis for her first goal of the season.
With five minutes to go, a tic-tac-toe passing play resulted from a Raider giveaway. Francis was again the beneficiary, slamming home a pass from the left side of the box for the clincher.
Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday at East Stroudsburg.
