The Shippensburg University men's cross country team hit the road for the first time this season with Friday night competition at Haverford's Main Line Invitational.
Competing in sunny and muggy conditions, the Raiders ran an unconventional distance – Haverford's course spanned four miles, which equates to a little bit more than 6,000 meters.
Shippensburg was the only NCAA Division II school in the race to record a team score, placing sixth. Pacing the field was Penn, who put six runners in the Top 10, while LaSalle and George Mason ran 2-3.
Garrett Quinan broke the 20-minute mark with an excellent performance, finishing sixth overall with a time of 19:44.5. Also cracking the Top 20 was
Ryan Wolfe, who served as the No. 2 Raider runner with a time of 20:13.2.
Ben Devine and
Brennan Wellock were each among the Top 50 finishers. Devine served as SU's No. 3 runner with a time of 20:58.7, a 43rd-place finish, while Wellock was five places behind by running 21:08.2.
First-year runner
Daniel Naylor rounded out the Raider scorers; he placed 57th overall with a time of 21:26.
Ben Hummel and
Brayden Boyd finished consecutively in 61st and 62nd place just one second apart.
Shippensburg is back in action in eight days when it heads to Big Spring High School in Newville for Dickinson's Long/Short Invitational.
