Luray High School: Totaled 12 varsity letters spanning track & field and cross country for the Bulldogs under coach Steve Printz…won two state championships in Virginia: the 800 meters as a junior and the 1,600 meters as a sophomore…broke his father’s 39-year-old Virginia high school record in the 800 meters en route to his title in 1:55.82…set a combined Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 1/2 state record in the indoor 1,000 meters…finished as an 18-time All-State performer, including three times in the outdoor 800 meters and the indoor 1,000 meters…amassed All-State efforts over eight different distances or disciplines (cross country, indoor 1,000 meters, indoor 1,600 meters, indoor 3,200 meters, indoor 4x400-meter relay, outdoor 800 meters, outdoor 1,600 meters, outdoor 4x400-meter relay)…was the VHSL Class ‘2A’ runner-up in the outdoor 800 meters as a freshman…completed his prep career as a two-time Region B Cross Country Runner of the Year and a two-time Bull Run District Cross Country Runner of the Year, achieving those honors as a junior and senior…compiled PRs of 1:55 at 800 meters, 4:21 at 1,600 meters and 15:56 over 5,000 meters of cross country…earned a one-year degree from Laurel Ridge Community College while in high school…was a member of the honor roll who graduated with a 4.22 GPA.
About Johnson: Full name is David Keith Johnson…is the son of Paul and Wendy Johnson…father Paul competed in track & field at the NCAA Division I and NCAA Division III level and became a coach who has mentored multiple NCAA Division III All-Americans.
