SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Victoria Mattioli delivered an all-conference third-place finish in the 10,000 meters Thursday night under the lights to lead three scorers for the Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team on the opening day of the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships held at Slippery Rock's Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Mattioli crossed the finish line in 38:15.69 to achieve her second consecutive scoring performance in the 10K after a fifth-place run last year on the home track. In Thursday's race she comfortably remained with the lead pack for the entire race and was never outside of the Top 3 save for one brief split around the 3,200-meter mark. She hung within a second of the lead until race champion Ruthie Hughes of Slippery Rock separated from the rest of the field with four laps to go.

Victoria Bartholomew impressed with a sixth-place finish of 38:54.26 in just her second collegiate 10K. Bartholomew was able to maintain the speed of the front-runners after the race started to get faster around the 4K mark and kept up the pace right down to the wire. Her final 400-meter split of 1:22.24 was third-fastest of the entire field, and she posted splits of 1:31 or faster in 10 of the 12 readings over the final 5,000 meters.

A total of six Raiders completed the 10K. Morgan Hess ran 12th in 39:41, Katy Todd was one spot behind in 39:43, Shaela Kruskie finished 15th in 40:13 and Caleigh Vincent was 16th in 40:21.

Junior Lauren Bellows, SU's lone entry in the hammer, delivered a fourth-place finish on a top throw of 161 feet, 10 inches (49.33 meters). Her top mark occurred on her second attempt and had put her in third place until she fell to fourth on the sixth and final attempts.

It's the second straight scoring performance for Bellows, who finished sixth a year ago.

Senior Nicola Puggé; and freshman Kaitlin Calvello completed the first four events of the heptathlon. Puggé sits in seventh place with a score of 2,769 points, while Calvello is 14th with a score of 2,285 points. A total of just 105 points separate second through seventh place.

Puggé had a solid start to the meet with a 100-meter hurdle time of 15.24 seconds that resulted in 810 points. Calvello's high total of the day was a 687-point effort in the 200 meters on a time of 27.30 seconds.

The meet resumes at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
