SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team finished in fifth place at the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, totaling 69 points in competition that finished up Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Anne Gardner had a solid conference championships debut in the outdoor triple jump, placing fourth on a top mark of 38 feet, 1 ½ inches (11.62 meters). Gardner achieved that mark on her fifth attempt and now ranks eighth in school history for the triple jump. Three of her jumps on the day were 37 feet, 6 ¾ inches (11.45 meters) or farther.
Melanie Barger and
Camryn Pyle scored in the 400-meter hurdles. Barger surged to a fourth-place finish of 1:03.32 for a new personal best that puts her No. 10 all-time at SU in the event. It was her third straight PSAC Top 10 finish in the 400 hurdles after placing fifth last year and ninth in 2023.
Pyle, who won her prelim heat to reach the final, finished seventh in her debut PSAC final with a time of 1:05.33.
Alyssa Wert was finally able to crack the elusive 57-second mark in the 400 meters in Saturday's finals. Her time of 56.69 seconds resulted in a sixth-place finish and ranks her No. 9 all-time at SU in the event. It is her second straight scoring performance in the event after a fifth-place finish last year.
Victoria Mattioli, the lone Raider competing in the 5K, posted her second straight fifth-place finish in the event, running 18:33.41.
Abby Reasoner paced three Raider scorers in the javelin, placing third on a top throw of 143 feet, 10 inches (43.85 meters). It's the second All-PSAC finish for Reasoner and she finishes as a four-year scorer in the javelin (first in 2024, sixth in 2023, fourth in 2022).
Katie Mancino delivered a PR in her final competition, achieving a sixth-place finish on a throw of 138 feet, 7 inches (42.25 meters) that ranks her No. 8 all-time in school history. It was Mancino's fourth time competing at the PSAC Championships and marked her first scoring performance.
Hannah Cassner posted a seventh-place finish in the javelin for the second straight year – her top throw Saturday traveled 137 feet, 2 inches (41.81 meters).
In the shot put, senior
ShanAnn Simmons finished just a half-inch off her personal best in her final competition, recording a sixth-place mark of 42 feet, 9 ¾ inches (13.05 meters). It is her second straight scoring performance after a third-place finish last season.
The Raiders wrapped up the meet with
Emily Calamia, Barger,
Madison Malcolm and Wert delivering a fifth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, running 3:56.71. Wert was timed at 56.61 seconds for her split, which proved to be the fourth-fastest anchor leg in the field.
Overall, Shippensburg finished the meet with 17 individual scoring performances – of which Reasoner's javelin and Mattioli's third-place 10K on Thursday night were All-PSAC finishes.
Slippery Rock won the 2025 conference title in convincing fashion, scoring 171 points en route to a 74-point margin of victory. Millersville claimed the red trophy by scoring 97 points. California (Pa.) was third with 82 points, and East Stroudsburg fourth with 70 points.
