The Shippensburg University women's tennis team came up short in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener at Kutztown on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Golden Bears at Keystone Courts.

Shippensburg (5-9, 0-1 PSAC East) and Kutztown (3-5, 1-0) opened up with a contested doubles point, as sophomore
Ava Kalist and senior
Kendall Winters won the No. 3 doubles flight, 6-1. KU claimed the doubles point, however, by winning each of the first two flights by a 6-1 score.

Brooklynn Rupert and sophomore
Brinley Orris won singles matches. At No. 5 singles, Rupert posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gabby Gentile that made the match score 1-1. At No. 6 singles, Orris outlasted Ryleigh Bohning, 6-4, 4-6, 10-2.

Three of the remaining four singles matches featured the Raiders winning at least six games.

Jade Miller won seven games at No. 3 singles (4-6, 3-6). Junior
Corinne Markovich claimed six games at No. 1 singles (4-6, 2-6) and sophomore
Rachel Gallagher won six games at No. 4 singles (3-6, 3-6).
