The Shippensburg University women's tennis team reaped the rewards of a total team effort in a comprehensive 7-0 triumph at Lock Haven Sunday.
Shippensburg (6-9) saw ten different players contribute to the Raider victory. The only player on the SU roster who did not suit up Sunday was senior
Kendall Winters, who missed the match due to illness.
The Raiders notched a clean sweep of the Bald Eagles, taking all three doubles matches and all six singles tilts.
Senior
Brooklynn Rupert and freshman
Jade Miller teamed up for a 6-2 win in No. 1 doubles.
Sophomore
Ava Kalist and sophomore
Brinley Orris took a close 6-4 match at No. 2 doubles, while freshman
Lauren Seip and sophomore
Janelle Kingsboro triumphed easily in a No. 3 doubles tilt, 6-0.
In singles competition, SU No. 1 singles competitor junior
Corinne Markovich dug out of a 5-2 hole in the first set to force a tiebreaker enroute to a strong finish, taking the match 7-6, 6-2.
Senior
Yasmin De Meyer (6-2, 6-0), Miller (6-0, 6-0), sophomore
Rachel Gallagher (6-0, 6-1) and Orris (6-0, 6-1) outscored the opposition a combined 48 games to four in No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Rupert fended off a strong challenge from Lock Haven's Alaina Marchioni to win a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 5 singles.
With the victory, Shippensburg matches its most wins in a season since the 2005-06 campaign, while Lock Haven falls to 2-8 with the loss.
